            In your journal, discuss one of the following topics:
                 How does Penelope's eating disorder reflect oppression in white culture?
                 Rowdy and Gordy both suggest that Junior is racist because he is in love with
                 Penelope.  Why do they say this?  Discuss how white supremacy could be a
                 factor in Junior's internalized "standard of beauty" and influence his romantic
                 desires.

       What dreams did you have when you were little?  Do you still have
        them? Have the people closest to you encouraged these dreams?
        What obstacles might get in the way of realizing your dreams?
    What is a self-fulfilling prophecy? How does it work for Junior?
         Have you ever felt that you’ve experienced a self-fulfilling
         prophecy?

                                 Be prepared for a 5-question reading quiz.
                                 Bring in 3 points from the reading you’d like to discuss.
                                 Choose one of the following assignments:
                             Write a backstory for Mary Runs Away or Mr. P.
      Create a drawing, modeled after the one on page 12, demonstrating
           what one of your parents may have been like if someone had paid
            attention to their dreams. Write a backstory for the drawing. (Note:
            It doesn’t have to be sad. George Bush dreamed of becoming a
            rancher; instead he became president.)

   Webquest on the Thanksgiving story.
     Find and read at least three sources from Native peoples about the
     story of Thanksgiving.  Write a paragraph discussing what you've
     learned.
